Each of these runs on a repeating cycle. Dates are published with each call rather than here, so nothing on this page goes out of date.
Recurring
Research methodology and grant-writing workshops
Working sessions on formulating a researchable question, reading a literature base efficiently, choosing a method you can defend, and writing a proposal that survives a funder's first pass. They are pitched at people writing their first proposal rather than their fifth.

FRT International Conference
A multidisciplinary conference with an open call for papers across all five domains. Submissions are judged on method and evidence. The program reserves room for first-time presenters, deliberately and every year.
Cohort-based
Research Mentorship Program
Each cohort matches a mentee with a researcher publishing in a related area, for a fixed term with defined checkpoints. Mentors commit to reading real drafts and responding in writing. That is the part that usually goes missing.

Poster Competition for Young Researchers
An international poster competition for students and early-career researchers. More than 25 posters were presented at the third edition. For many entrants it is the first time their work has been judged outside their own department.

Hackathon and Innovation Challenge
A short-form build event where teams take a stated problem to a working prototype. Teams that mix disciplines tend to place, which is the point.

A draft is read the way a reviewer will read it, and returned with the objections a reviewer would raise, while there is still time to answer them.

Sessions from researchers and practitioners on method, tooling and the state of a field, held online so that attendance does not depend on being in one city.

Awards
FRT recognizes work through the awards below. Criteria are published with each call, before submissions open.
- Best Paper Award
- The strongest full paper presented at an FRT conference, judged on method and contribution.
- Young Researcher Award
- Sustained, high-quality work by a student or early-career researcher.
- Best Poster Award
- The clearest and most rigorous poster at the poster competition.
- Innovation Award
- Work that turns a research result into something usable outside the lab.
- Mentor of the Year
- A mentor whose cohort demonstrably moved their work forward.
- Distinguished Service Award
- Substantial voluntary contribution to running FRT's programs.
- Honorary Fellowship
- Long-standing contribution to research and to the community FRT serves.
